SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team downed New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) foe Saint Michael's College in shutout fashion on Saturday afternoon, 4-0.
The Hawks improve to 8-3 on the year, 7-3 in NEWHA play. The Purple Knights fall to 2-6 overall and in league action.
Junior Gabby Monaco (La Verne, Calif.) sent home the first goal of the game in front of the net, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 10:45 of the first period.
Just under four minutes later, freshman Gabrielle Huson (Edina, Minn.) found the back of the goal at 14:03 as she fired a shot past the Purple Knights' goaltender from the slot. Huson's tally ended the scoring for the first period which provided a 2-0 cushion for the Hawks heading into the first intermission.
Midway through the second period, on a power-play opportunity, freshman Kenadie Cooper (Gilbert, Ariz.) fired a one-timer into the net, extending the Hawks lead to 3-0.
Sophomore Erin Meyers (Saint Paul, Minn.) volleyed home another one-timer in front of the net, finishing the Hawks goal scoring in the third period at 14:24.
Senior Michaela Kane (Haverhill, Mass.) stopped a total of 12 shots, earning her fourth win of the season. Kane recorded her sixth shutout victory of her career and moved up the all-time shutout list to seventh after Saturday's result.
Purple Knights netminder Vika Simons finished the contest with 47 saves. Meyers and junior Katy Meehan (Quincy, Mass.) recorded team-high eight faceoff wins each.
Saint Anselm outshot the Purple Knights, 47-12.
The Hawks return to action against Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, Nov. 19 for a 7:30 p.m. NEWHA matchup.
