Conley finishes as runner-up, women's cross country fourth at Shacklette Invite

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Shannon Conley finished as the individual runner-up to lead the Saint Anselm College women's cross country team's showing at the Shacklette Invitational as the Hawks finished fourth in the seven-team field on Saturday.


Conley, who has finished in the top-eight at the Shacklette Invitational in all four of her showings at her home event and won the meet last year, finished second with a time of 19:18. Assumption's Courtney Fisher was the lone finisher ahead of Conley, crossing the line in 18:55 to take the individual title.

Junior Liberty Gendron was the second finisher for Saint Anselm, placing 21st with a time of 20:41. Sarah Panteleos and Kelsie Nern also placed in the top-40, as Panteleos was 32nd (20:58) and Nern finished 39th (21:26). Junior Anna Barrell rounded out the five scorers for the Hawks in 45th (22:07).

Freshmen Emily Ryan, Lian Smithers and Gabrielle Dionne finished 53rd, 54th and 57th, respectively, with Amanda Pageau and Jaclyn Brennan rounding out the finishers.

Stonehill won the meet as a team with 31 points, placing five in the top 10 and seven in the top 16. The Skyhawks finished 14 points ahead of Assumption with Merrimack coming in third. Saint Anselm narrowly edged Bentley, which was ranked eighth in the region, for fourth by two points with a total of 124.

The Hawks travel to Northampton, Mass. for the Smith College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9.
