MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Jess Perkins and Meghan Golden each won both of their matches as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory over American International College on Wednesday at South Tennis Courts.
Saint Anselm (5-6, 4-6 NE10) swept the three doubles matches at the loss of just five games and lost just three games in five-straight set singles victories. Carleyah McLean posted a victory at No. 2 singles for American International (1-11, 1-9 NE10).
The tandems of Lexi Stathis and Maikah Bulpitt and Golden and Tess Malerbi each cruised to 8-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes moved to 7-3 in the NE10 this year at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 victory to give the Hawks a doubles sweep.
In singles, Golden, Stathis and Bulpitt all recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles for Saint Anselm to wrap up the team win. Hughes dropped just one game in her victory at No. 3 singles, while Perkins was victorious, 6-1, 6-1, atop the lineup. Perkins' victory improved the senior to 10-1 (9-1 NE10) on the season and was her fifth consecutive win.
In her four years on the Hilltop, Perkins is the winningest player in program history, posting a record of 55-9 in singles and 40-19 in doubles. Golden has a combined 45 wins in singles and doubles over her four-year career at Saint Anselm.
The Hawks head to Merrimack College on Friday, Oct. 13 for a 3 p.m. match against the Warriors.
