MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins picked up a win at No. 1 singles and paired with Kaitlin Hughes for a victory at No. 1 doubles, but Le Moyne College defeated the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team 7-2 in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Saturday at South Tennis Courts.
Perkins recorded her second-straight 6-0, 6-0 victory atop the lineup to start the year for Saint Anselm (1-1, 0-1 NE10). Le Moyne (2-1, 2-1 NE10) earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and won five singles points to record the victory.
In doubles, the Dolphins got victories from the tandems of Rithika Vajjiravelu and Tiffany Hamden and Marta Nunez and Camila Humala at the second and third spots to take an advantage into singles. Perkins and Hughes provided a point for the Hawks with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Perkins, who started last season with five-straight 6-0, 6-0 singles victories and had nine for the season, was the lone singles victor for Saint Anselm. Le Moyne won the remaining singles matches in straight sets.
Saint Anselm plays its second of back-to-back home NE10 matches when Saint Rose visits campus for a noon match on Sunday, Sept. 17.
