PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Emma Sinanan scored early in each half for Pace University as the Setters defeated the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Pace Stadium.
Sinanan found the back of the net in the fourth minute and again in the 51st minute for Pace (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NE10) on the afternoon. The loss for Saint Anselm (2-1-0, 0-1-0 NE10) ended the Hawks' two-game winning streak to start the season.
Exactly four minutes in, Sinanan turned in an Ariel Almodovar cross in the box to put the Setters on top early on. Looking for an equalizer, the Hawks put three shots on net in the next 20 minutes, but Pace goalkeeper Hayley Pascoal made saves on efforts by Delaney Bartol, Madison Sarra and Nicole White to keep the hosts ahead.
Sinanan struck again juts 5:08 into the second half, heading a cross by Victoria Kealy into the corner of the net to double Pace's advantage.
Both teams fired six shots in the game, with Pascoal stopping all three on net to earn the shutout victory. Elise Bouchard made a pair of saves for the Hawks but suffered her first loss of the young season.
Saint Anselm looks to bounce back on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when the Hawks travel across town to take on Southern New Hampshire University in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Larkin Field. The game will be followed by a 7 p.m. men's game between the Hawks and Penmen.
