Seniors pace ski teams in first race of season

LUDLOW, Vt. – In the Saint Anselm College ski teams' first race of the season, seniors led the men to a fifth-place showing while the women finished sixth in the giant slalom at Okemo Mountain on Thursday.

For the men, senior Benji Page paced the Hawks with a ninth-place finish, completing two runs in 2:11.65. Classmate Alex Conrad was Saint Anselm's second finisher, coming in 24th in 2:18.58, while sophomore Joe Wirth was 27th with a time of 2:21.97 to round out the three scorers. As a team, the men put together a time of 6:52.20 to place fifth in the nine-team field, less than eight seconds behind UConn and almost 20 seconds ahead of UMass.

Senior Taylor Cudhea posted the fastest time for the women with a 2:21.17 combined time, which was good for 20th in the field. Fellow senior Leika Scott was just behind Cudhea, finishing 23rd in 2:21.57. The third finisher for the Hawks was sophomore Katherine Quinn, whose time of 2:23.41 was good for 26th. The women wound up in sixth with a team time of 7:06.15, which was just a second and a half behind fourth-place UConn.

Friday's slalom at Okemo Mountain was postponed due to rain and fog, meaning the Hawks will return to the slopes on Saturday, Jan. 20 with the slalom at Pat's Peak in Henniker, N.H.
