Kerstin Matthews enters her fourth season as the head coach of
the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team. Named to
the position on August 25, 2008, Matthews has accumulated a career
record of 51-26-4 during her tenure on the Hilltop.
Last season, Matthews coached the Hawks to a 20-6-1 overall record
alongside a 13-5-0 conference record against ECAC Women's East
foes. The 2010-11 squad ranked second all-time in program
history in wins (20) while also reaching triple-digit goal totals
(106) for the fourth time in the team's seven year history.
Matthews came to Saint Anselm from Boston University, where she
served as the Terriers' first assistant coach since 2005. Prior to
then, she was the women's club head ice hockey coach before the BU
program moved up to varsity status. As the program's first
assistant coach, Matthews served as the team's recruiting
coordinator, both domestically and
internationally, as well as coaching the forwards in practices and
game situations.
In addition to her responsibilities at Boston University, Matthews is co-owner of Hockey Advantage, a girls ice hockey school located in Woburn, Mass. Founded in 2001, Hockey Advantage teaches fundamentals of ice hockey through clinics, camps and private lessons.
Matthews is a 2000 graduate of Providence College, where she
graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in
management. She was also a four-year member of the women's ice
hockey team, appearing in 123 career games for the Friars.
During her senior season, Matthews captained the team and posted
three goals and 10 assists for 13 points (3-10=13). including
serving as team captain.
Matthews resides in Woburn, Mass. with her husband Jeff and her son
Jacob.
