Carter, Hunt card 74's to lead golf in opener

NEW LONDON, N.H.Nick Carter and Stephen Hunt each shot 74 (+4) to lead the way for the Saint Anselm College men's golf team, as the Hawks were defeated 286-304 by Southern New Hampshire University in their first meet of the season on Thursday at Lake Sunapee Country Club.

Carter and Hunt's matching scores of 74 put them in a four-way tie for fourth in the 24-player field. The pair were four shots behind Drew Kane and Garrett Oliver, who each shot even-par 70s for the Penmen.

Robbie Cole and Tad Link were the third and fourth finishers for Saint Anselm, shooting 77 (+7) and 79 (+9) to finish 12th and 13th. Freshman Maxwell Ratner placed in a tie for 14th in his first collegiate meet with an 80 (+10).

Next up for Saint Anselm is a trip to Brunswick, Maine for the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9-10. The Hawks won the event last season behind Hunt's second-place finish (75-72-147).
