MANCHESTER, N.H. – After earning the program's first NCAA Tournament bid and advancing to the National Semifinals a season ago, head coach Carolyn King-Robitaille and the Saint Anselm College field hockey team has announced its 2017 schedule.
The Hawks will play an 18-game schedule this season that features a balanced schedule of nine road games and nine home games in Manchester. The Hawks went 9-1 a season ago in the friendly confines of Grappone Stadium en route to the program's first Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship.
"We are eager to begin the 2017 campaign and take on the challenge that is competing in the NE10," said King-Robitaille. "The NE10 is one of the most competitive conferences in the country and we are fortunate that we get to face quality opponents every time we step on the field."
"We have also scheduled strategic non-conference games both at home and on the road to help us gain valuable experiences that we can refer back to as we compete throughout the season," added Robitaille.
Those non-league games begin the month of September, as the Hawks will take on three-straight NE10 opponents in non-conference action. Saint Anselm opens with a home game on Sept. 2 against Assumption before hitting the road on Sept. 7 for a contest at St. Michael's. The Hawks then will take on cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday Sept. 13 in a Queen City Cup matchup.
Saint Anselm has a busy weekend in the middle of September as they open Northeast-10 Conference play with a 10 a.m. matchup at Adelphi on Sept. 16. The next day they will stay out in New York as they will take a trip to St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 17.
The Hawks return home for two-straight NE10 games against St. Michael's on Sept. 20 and Pace on Sept. 23, before wrapping up the month with road games at Franklin Pierce (Sept. 26) and at Southern Connecticut State (Sept. 30).
A road trip to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy College opens the month of October as the Hawks and Mavericks meet in New York for the second-straight season on Oct. 1. Saint Anselm follows that up with home games against Merrimack (Oct. 4) and New Haven (Oct. 7) and then travels to Assumption on Oct. 10 for their second meeting of the season.
After a home game against Bentley on Oct. 13, the Hawks will travel across town to take on Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 18 leading up to a huge game against LIU Post on Oct. 21. The Hawks and Pioneers met three times a season ago, including in the NE10 Championship and NCAA National Semifinals, with all three games being decided by one goal in overtime in favor of LIU Post.
Saint Anselm faces a tough matchup the following Tuesday (Oct. 24) when it travels to Stonehill for an NE10 matchup with the Skyhawks. The Hawks swept both meetings with Stonehill, including the Hawks' first NCAA Tournament victory in the NCAA Tournament Opening Round.
The Hawks wrap up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 27 when they host American International at 6 p.m. The NE10 Tournament begins play on Tuesday, Oct. 31 with the semifinals taking place on Nov. 3 and the championship on Nov. 5. The NCAA Selection Show will take place on Nov. 6 with the NCAA First Round scheduled for Nov. 11.
