A Look at Saint Anselm Hawk History
October 24, 2002 - Kate Maruszewski (now Kate Gaudreau, head coach of the field hockey team) scores two goals against Merrimack College in a 4-3 victory for the Hawks, giving her the school record for most career goals. Gaudreau played at Saint Anselm for just two seasons and is the program's all-time leading scorer.
The women's cross country team finishes third overall at the Northeast-10 Conference championships and Erin Thorpe is named Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference for her performance in the championship.
1989 - The men's cross country team placed fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference championship meet as Dan Heffernan is named as the league's Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team.
November 10, 1976 - Women's volleyball earns its first victory in school history in its inaugural game against New Hampshire College (15-2, 15-5).
September 11, 1999 - Hawks Football returns after a 58-year absence with a 46-18 victory over UMass-Lowell at Grappone Stadium. This game marks the largest crowd in Grappone Stadium history with 4,500 fans attending the game. Also, quarterback Kyle Van DeGiesen completed 19-of-33 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns.
November 5, 1995 - Women's soccer freshman forward Caroline Sheeran (Plymouth, Mass.) nets a game-winning goal against New Hampshire College to win the ECAC Championship.
October 23, 2004 - Hawks defeat St. Michaels by a 1-0 final for the final career victory for Hall of Fame head coach Ed Cannon. Cannon is now the Director of Athletics at Saint Anselm.
Softball - Lisa Petell picks up her school-record 20th win of the season against Assumption in a 10-6 victory. This is also her final victory as a Hawk, giving her 61 career victories, 633 career strikeouts and a .743 winning percentage, all of which are all still school records.
May 4, 2004 - The Saint Anselm baseball team defeated conference rival Assumption 7-0 to clinch the first 30-win season in school history. The season also included being ranked 17th nationally, earning the Northeast-10 Conference Regular-Season Championship, and making the schools first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Championships.
November 16, 2002 - Head coach Ed Seney earns his first victory in his first game as coach of Saint Anselm in a 3-1 win over Stonehill.
March 9, 1990 - The women's basketball program earns a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and defeats New Hampshire College, 86-73.
March 11, 2000 - The men's basketball team defeated Adelphi University, 76-72, to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight in Louisville, KY. The win gave the Hawks their first-ever regional championship.
